The 1980s building slump in Sydney was contrasted by a boom in Canberra. For some years, about a hundred architects were occupied with design detailing and construction of the new Parliament House. At the same time, we contracted to a range of firms, working on the exterior cladding for the Unisys building for Godfrey Spowers (pictured), and government office fitouts handled by the Dept of Housing and Construction (pictured). Among the numerous office fitouts, were the newly constructed office blocks in Allara Street (next to Glebe Park). Our work ranged from designing performance specifications for government office workstations, to preparing office layouts for Tindal Air Base near Katherine, Northern Territory.
