Beach Cabin

“Potato Chips” is a cabin at Potato Point, NSW South Coast. This distinctive two-storey pole frame is nestled in a bushland setting beside a coastal lagoon. The affordable design is also low maintenance, with minimal surface area requiring repainting (the only painted surfaces are the balustrade and eave). It utilises passive solar design for winter comfort. Various details contain echoes of Australian and European rural architecture: corrugated iron walling, steep roof forms, jarrah joinery, plywood eaves and ceilings, internal pine walls. The design also makes reference to its marine location with an elevated living platform, which is like the bow of a ship, catching sea breezes in summer.
